*All are invited to attend the opening reception and artist talk on 10/12, 5-8 pm in the gallery.

Cobb returns to his alma mater to show a collection of paintings that he started while an undergrad here, some of which have been completed just this year. The gallery will be transformed with an assembled wooden chapel, lined with gold-leafed, egg tempera paintings. Cobb's work describes his search for spirituality, discovering during his time at St. Edward's that "there was no deep spiritual root within me." This series seeks to "tie the very old with the here and now, and a new imperative to hold sacred something so magnificent no degree of malfeasance in life thrown your way could defeat it. A new testimony that the old self could not answer for."

Cobb is exhibiting for the first time another architectural creation combining woodworking, ceramics, and painting, resulting in an impressive altar of sorts, supplemented with architectural drawings. Additionally, he will be showing a personal piece made in collaboration with our very own Donald Haughey and Michael Massey-- an impressive portable mural.

This show is presented by the St. Edward's Department of Visual Studies, in partnership with the Holy Cross Institute, and with generous support from the Walle Conoly Visiting Artist Fund. It is free and open to the public.
