The Most Rev. John McCarthy Lecture Series: "Picturing Scriptures: How Artists Tell the Story"

Robin Jensen, Ph.D., Professor of Theology, University of Notre Dame, will be our featured speaker for the Spring 2022 McCarthy event, with her lecture "Picturing Scriptures: How Artists Tell the Story."

An expert in the field of visual exegesis, Professor Jensen will discuss examples of how artists through the ages have interpreted biblical texts and shaped the ways we imagine our sacred stories and their physical surroundings.

The series honors the Most Reverend John McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and underscores the university’s commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross heritage. Held on campus through the School of Arts and Humanities, the McCarthy Lecture Series brings Catholic religious and lay experts from around the country to discuss issues facing the Catholic Church in the 21st century. The lectures are free and open to the public.

This event will be presented in-person in Jones Auditorium. Reception to follow. If you would like to pre-register for the livestream, you may do so here.

Please contact Emily Hammett or Jacqueline Tamayo with any additional questions.
